About Us

Family at Lavender Fields

We are the Brouwer Family – Bill, Tammy and Abigail.  We have been missionaries with BIMI since 1993 and have had the privilege of working in the countries of Kenya and Tanzania. We currently serve as church planters in the Lake Region of Mwanza, Tanzania.

Bill was saved at the age of 20 while working at a gas station. A pastor out of visitation came through to get directions. After Bill showed him how to get to his destination the pastor showed Bill how to get to heaven. There at the gas station Bill accepted Christ as his Savior. A decision that changed his life forever. Shortly after his salvation Bill felt the Lord calling him into full-time ministry. He went to Bible College and received a BA in Pastoral Ministry.

This same church had a bus ministry. Tammy was invited to ride the bus to church. After attending church for only one Sunday her way was paid to go to summer camp. It was at this camp that Tammy recognized her need for a Savior and accepted Christ. She was discipled by the ladies of this church and surrendered to God’s will for her life.

Bill and Tammy met at this church and were married in 1987. Having both surrendered to full-time ministry, they began looking for a place to serve. Their first place of ministry was Cleveland, OH where Bill served as the youth pastor. In 1990 they moved to where they now call home – Greeneville, TN.  Bill served as the youth pastor and later the senior pastor. It was at Central Baptist Church that God clearly called the Brouwers to serve as missionaries in East Africa.
